1st birthday Cake smash photoshoot

So your little one is about to reach that all important 1st birthday milestone and you are wondering how those first 12 months have gone by so fast? I get it, its been a complete blink and here you are planning their 1st birthday. Have you ever considered a cake smash and splash photoshoot? Maybe you have heard of them or the term ‘ smash the cake photoshoot’ but thought

‘ No way i couldn’t deal with all that mess’.

Trust me when i say i take care of everything and all you do is show up. Your baby will go home just as clean as when they arrived and you will be so glad you booked in.

Go pop the kettle on, grab a coffee and take 5 minutes to read through. You might just change your mind.

What is a cake smash i hear you ask?

Basically, these sessions are a fun way for your baby to celebrate their 1st birthday by eating (and messing) a birthday cake whilst i photograph the fun and giggles. My style is timeless and minimal with the session shot on an all white backdrop. I provide a simple naked cream cake that matches my styling perfectly. This enables the focus to be completely on your baby and not a busy setup behind them. Sometimes i find that having tons of colours/balloons/props can be very distracting and i want your baby to be the leading role!

The session itself is broken into 3 different parts, Portraits/cake smash/bath tub.

I start with some simple portraits before the messy part begins. This is to ensure you have some beautiful images of your baby without any fuss in the background. Then we move to the cakesmash itself. This is when we let your little one destruct a birthday cake and encourage them to get messy with their hands. They really enjoy this part as its usually the opposite than at meal times at home. We then finish up in a bubble bath. I fill my minature bath with warm shallow water and allow your child to splash. The studio is usually covered in water by the end and that’s exactly what we want. This session is meant to be messy and your little one will have the best time.

And do you want to know the best part? I provide everything for the session and

I CLEAN UP ALL THE MESS AFTERWARDS!

Tell me more…….

If you want to book a cake smash sessions for your little one, the process is so easy. Just fill out this form

and leave as many details as possible including your child’s up coming birthday date and we can then schedule you in for about 3 weeks before that date. (The sooner you do this the better as my diary does fill up pretty quickly so pre booking is essential ). This will allow plenty of editing time so you have those all important photos in time for their big day. I provide the outfits, cake, balloons etc for the session so you just turn up! All i request is that you bring a towel for after the bath and a drink for your little one as they make need it after having cake. All my sessions are kept timeless and minimal like the images above as i do not do crazy themes or elaborate set ups. I want the focus to be on your baby and not the backdrop.

The session itself will last approximately 45 - 60 minutes, it just depends on each child as some take a little longer to settle. Some babies don’t like the cake (crazy right) as it is the sweetest thing they have ever tasted and the texture may be too much. I let parents know this before we begin as it can be a shock if their child doesnt actually make a mess or smash the cake. If this happens, we move on to the bath set up as all the kids LOVE this part. They get to splash and soak the studio without being told not to and thats when the big smiles and giggles happen. I also pull out the bubbles and capture those sweet moments of them reaching up and popping them.

After the session, i then go through the gallery and keep the best images from the day. I will hand edit these and you will be sent a viewing gallery to select your favourites around 2-3 weeks after the shoot. Once i know what you are selecting, final edits are done and you will be sent a link to download your beautiful memories.
